Set of 6 Pierre Paulin 'Boston' Chairs for Henry Massonnet
Pierre Paulin / Stamp / France
Set of 6 Boston garden chairs by French furniture designer Pierre Paulin, manufactured by Henry Massonnet/STAMP in 1988. Paulin was influenced here by (and built on the work of) Dutch "De Stijl" painter Piet Mondriaan and Glasgow art nouveau and art deco artist and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The maker, STAMP, surprisingly started as a manufacturing company that had a cooling box for fishermen as their biggest success. It was when Massonnet, who was an avid fisherman himself, designed a portable stool for himself to take on fishing trips (and that design subsequently becoming an overnight success) that the company pivoted towards furniture. This chair was the culmination of that very successful trajectory change. Chairs are made of polypropylene and are suitable for in- and outdoor use. All in original condition with visible wear and scratching consistent with its age and usage. Sold as sets of 6. Listing for individuals (S666 SG).
