Designed by Jean Prouve and Charlotte Perriand, this 'Antony' bed, model no. 450 has become an Icon of French Mid Century Design. In the early 1940s the Ateliers Jean Prouvé provided beds with bent metal frames and tube bases for the staff dormitories at the SCAL (Société central des alliages legers—the Light Alloy Company) plant in Issoire. This 1955 adaptation by the Ateliers Jean Prouvé of that earlier iteration is a single version that was used for the furnishing of the accommodations unit of the Cité Universitaire in Antony. These beds were also made for the Cité Cansado in Mauritania - and this particular piece may have been part of that project as well. Frame in original condition with heavy signs of wear consistent with age and use. Table shows signs of wear and age.
