A.R. Cordemeyer "Cleopatra" Narrow Daybed For Auping with Mattress and Bolster

1960's Cleopatra narrow daybed by A.R. Cordemeyer with teak wood ends, enameled dark grey metal frame and "Auping" printed on mesh springs. The piece's manufacturer, Royal Auping, was founded in 1888 and has been a part of (and more often than not was instrumental in breaking ground in) every style of design ever since. The Cleopatra divan bed for Auping was developed by Cordemeijer in 1953, among many other things. Auping hired Cordemeijer to create 'something wonderful'. The Cleopatra's exquisite design he presented to the company fit in wonderfully with the newly updated bedroom style of the 1950s. After Auping he started working at Gispen in 1954 and carried on as an independent industrial designer, creating a large amount of office furniture. Newly upholstered Castro Beige mattress and matching bolster. Frame in original condition with visible scratching to the enamel. Other daybeds available in other widths and listed separately.
