Mid-Century 'Pulkka' leather lounge chair by Ilmari Lappalainen for Asko. Ilmari Lappalainen (1918–2006) first graduated as a woodwork teacher in 1939 and as an interior architect in 1947. After graduation, he got a designer's position at the Asko factories in Lahti. From 1960, Lappalainen worked as the head of the company's interior design service and, among other tasks, as an interior designer for Asko's department stores, public spaces and hotels, and as a teacher. Pulkka is part of the furniture series designed by Lappalainen between 1963 and 1968. The idea was to create as compact and comfortable lounge furniture as possible. Over the years, the Pulkka series has become one of Lappalainen's most famous works. This chair is adjustable, the seat can be lifted up and placed in the desired position. Chrome frame with leather wrapped armrests. In original condition with visible wear, including patina. Wear is consistent with its age and use.
