Mid-Century Green Stained 'Asserbo' Dining Table by Børge Mogensen for Carl Hansen & Søn
Børge Mogensen / Carl Hansen & Søn / Denmark
Mid-Century green stained 'Asserbo' dining table designed by Danish Mid-Century icon Børge Mogensen in 1961 for Carl Hansen & Søn. Mogensen was born in 1914 in Denmark. Traditionally trained as a cabinetmaker he went on to study furniture design at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen from 1936–38 and architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Architecture from 1938–42 with Danish design pioneer Kaare Klint. In his work Mogensen set out to produce quality furniture that was in service of the people with designs that work to serve its user - and not the other way around. He steered clear of fashionable trends and was of the opinion that furniture should grow old in order to span a life with the people who lived with, and became attached, to them. This table is lightly refinished with a gently rounded edges and trestle base. In overall impressive condition with some visible wear consistent with age and use.
