"The Rock" two seater leather sofa by Gerard van den Berg for Montis. Gerard van den Berg apprenticed with a painter at a young age, where he honed and expanded his creative abilities. He then attended the Secondary Technical School in Rotterdam to learn about furniture manufacturing. He was later trained as a furniture maker at his father's company. His technical knowledge became an important part of his creative talent. “I work with both my hands and my head because furniture making is a wonderful job. The urge to create always drives me to make something. I always use simple, natural lines as a basis for my designs. I like pure and simple. Don't stack too many shapes on top of each other and don't add too much decoration. I am fully aware of what I want, what is possible and what is not possible. My furniture must also radiate that." Van den Berg not only has an eye for the design and appearance of his furniture, they must also be technically perfect. This chair has dark green-black leather with a deep patina and visible wear, consistent with its age and use. There is a small cut on the from facing panel that has been mended.
