Mid-Century, hand-crafted Salasaca tapestry
Salasaca / Salasaca / Equador
Woven wool tapestry with primitive design made from Ecuador. This Salasaca piece, named after the small Equadorian town known for its exquisite tapestries, is part of a long standing tradition where the colorful, loom-woven designs were hand dyed with natural pigments. The designs on the tapestries range from traditional iconography to contemporary depictions of everyday life. Renowned tapestry seller Olga Fisch may have had this piece in their collection in the 70s. In original condition with some signs of age, including some breakage of the top loop(s). Wear is consistent with its age and use.
