Stunningly crafted executive desk by renowned California craftsman Lou Hodges in walnut, oak and koa woods for Creative Crafts, circa 1960. Heavy desk with beautiful curvatures and accents with mixed grains that compliment its masterful style. Lou Hodges was a pivotal figure in the history of Mid-Century California modern design, known for his exquisite work with hardwoods. He was born in Washington, DC in 1937 and grew up on a farm. He later relocated to the West Coast, where he graduated from the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles. Hodges created wonderful custom and production pieces primarily in oak and walnut and during his career worked with many high profile California clients, his designs garnering many awards and acclaim. This desk is in original condition with some visible wear consistent with its age and use. Chair opening is 29.75" wide.
