Cute wire coat rack by Coen de Vries for Pilastro. Pilastro was an Amsterdam company that proudly bore the Good Housing Quality Mark, an award given out by the publication of the "Good Living" foundation which aimed to raise living standards in the Netherlands by promoting furniture and home goods that met certain aesthetic, technical and social requirements. After attending the Hogere Burgerschool in The Hague from 1936 to 1937, Coen de Vries trained at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague in the interior architecture department under Cor Alons and Mart Stam. After his education, Coen de Vries started the arts and crafts shop 'De Sleutel'. More or less forced by the problems of the post-war reconstruction of The Netherlands with regard to scarcity of materials and orders, the sale of small arts and crafts items was soon replaced by furniture of his own design. De Vries was one of the first to take the production of his designs into his own hands. This piece consists of coated wire frame with black and yellow enameled metal hooks and red wire upper shelf. A playful and lightweight wall mount rack in original condition with some visible wear and enamel loss.
