Mod Chair with Black, Grey Specked Fabric and Saarinen Style Black Acrylic Base. Base Looks to be Overpainted, Hiding Some Previous Paint Cracking (although, not so well) Geoffrey Harcourt began designing for Artifort in 1962. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London, and won the title "Royal Designer for Industry" in 1978. His design motto was "First the person, then the chair." Harcourt designed his famous swivel chair 500-series in 1967. He centered the design on a shell-like body with a trumpet base - with chairs varying in deep-buttoned padding, stitched edging, and fixed cushions
