Orange Black and White Painted Ceramic Topped Coffee Table

Belgian Mid-Century, J. Belarti designed and manufactured, orange black and white glazed ceramic topped coffee table. Produced in the 1960s. J Belarti is commonly accepted to have been a pseudonym for Belgian ceramic artist and designer Julien De Covemaeker (and was possibly used by ceramicists that worked in his studio as well). The top is composed of hand-painted and glazed ceramic tiles arranged in a grid, depicting an abstract composition with two large circular motifs in dark brown and white contrasted by a red orange background. The dark wood frame follows a Parsons-style silhouette with straight block-form legs flush to the apron. Table shows wear consistent with age and use, Frame recently refinished.
