Folding armchair by Angel Pazmino for Muebles De Estilo, Guayaquil, Ecuador, 1960s. The scissor-action X-base frame is rendered in wood with a light refinish. Seat and back consist of single-panel dark brown tooled leather, with the back featuring a detailed Pre-Columbian central composition — a stepped pyramid, flanked figures, and a sun deity — enclosed within a geometric meander border. Pazmino's folding designs for Muebles De Estilo reached markets across North America and Europe during the 1960s and remain among the most recognized examples of Latin American Mid-Century Modern production. The chair shows wear consistent with age and use.
