Pair of Gerard van den Berg Loge Chairs for Montis, 1980

Gerard van den Berg / Montis / Netherlands

Gerard van den Berg designed the Loge chair for Dutch manufacturer Montis in 1980, utilizing a continuous shell construction that merges seat, back and armrests into a unified sculptural form. The molded approach represents advanced upholstery techniques developed in the Netherlands during the Postmodern period, departing from conventional frame-based seating construction. Cognac leather upholstered shell with brushed chrome legs and exaggerated foot pads provide a contrasting linear element. A deep-seated profile and enveloping armrests create reclined lounging posture characteristic of 80's Dutch design innovation. Priced as a pair.
